Alhassan ‘The Boy from Bo’

Name: Alhassan

Position: Right Midfield

Hometown: Bo

Age: 14

Alhassan comes from a town called Bo in the South East of Sierra Leone, infamous for its large reserve of diamonds that fueled the countries decade-long civil war. Alhassan began playing soccer when he was nine years old on a dirt field behind the compound where he lived. He had no boots so the stones would cut his feet.

Whilst playing for his local team, Alhassan heard about an open trial that would be held in his town for a chance to join the county’s first ever football academy; set up by professional football player Craig Bellamy.

As a player, Alhassan is confidant on the ball and always looks to attack. These qualities, among others helped him make it to the final trial in Sierra Leone’s capital, Freetown. Due to his strong academic ability, however, Alhassan’s family refused to let him travel. Determined to follow his dreams, he went against his parents’ wishes and travelled to the capital, Freetown, with his coach; where he was ultimately selected.

Since joining the CBF Academy, Alhassan has excelled in every area, making his family very proud. As one of the top students he is consistently earning top marks in all subjects. Life at the academy has also positively impacted him, seeing Alhassan grow 11 cm and 22 lbs in his first year. The future looks bright for this boy from Bo.
