Coming to America! Blog 1
We hear about the first week in the USA for Kelsey and Sahid!
Sahid’s view:
It was hard for me to leave my family and friends to come to America. It was also hard for me to adapt quickly to the weather. People have been really friendly and nice to me since I arrived. I started classes last Monday and the week has gone well. I also started soccer practice last Monday and played my first game on Saturday.
When I first arrived it was hard for me because it was my first time to leave my country and my family. But now it’s getting better because I am getting used to people, making friends, and I have started to feel at home.
Kelsey’s view:
This has been a long time coming, but walking though the final arrival gates greeted by my mom and Waid, made it all a reality. We were actually here, in America!!!!! It has really happened.
This week has been busy to say the least! I could not be more proud of Sahid and his focus, willingness and ability to adapt. Change isn’t an easy thing and sacrifice is a struggle. Sahid is working through both. The changes are many and the sacrifices he has made to come are huge. Leaving your friends, family and everything you have EVER known for years at the age of fourteen is something I can’t relate to, and I admire the way Sahid has taken all this challenges head on.
We have started classes, started soccer and have been meeting everyone! The Dunn community and the Valley have all been so welcoming, making the transitions that much easier.
The beginning is always a challenge, but as each day passes I find that we are both becoming more settled in our new surrounding, new roles and new home.
