Dennis ‘The Water Carrier’
Position: Defence/Midfield
Hometown: Freetown
Age: 14
Dennis Cole is from Sierra Leone’s capital Freetown from an area known as Congo Town. At an early age Dennis learned about loss. His father passed away when he was only 8 years old. Up until that time he had been living with his father and had become completely dependent on him. His father praised his natural academic abilities, which always landed him at the top of his class.
After his father passed Dennis had little faith in himself and struggled to stay motivated without his number one fan. His attention at school began to slip and his natural zest for life weakened. For three years Dennis felt lost and alone…
In 2010 Dennis finally found a place that, in his words;“totally changed my life. I now have people around me that support me, encourage me and educate me. I am so thankful for this opportunity. I now have a big family that always loves me.”
Since Dennis was awarded a place at the Academy he has found a renewed purpose in life, something to strive for and every day he is developing into a focused, driven, and well-rounded individual. Dennis works strives to make his family proud, and the progress he has shown to date would surely make his father smile.
