Ibrahim ‘Long Distance’
Position: Midfielder
Hometown: Freetown
Age: 14
Ibrahim comes from Sierra Leone’s capital, Freetown. From day one Ibrahim has been forced to help his family.
Ibrahim lost his father during the war when he was only two months old. His mother was then forced to look after Ibrahim, his sister and three brothers on her own.
With finances tight at home, Ibrahim played his part in trying to provide for his family by selling cold drinks on the street. Needless to say the family struggled to pay the school fees necessary for Ibrahim to have a consistent education, and he was only able to afford to attend classes sporadically, when he managed to bring home enough money to cover the bills and meet tuition fees.
Ibrahim was the last member to join the Academy’s first generation. He is a kind soul who truly knows the meaning of appreciation and can be found reading his favorite book or talking with members of staff trying to learn all that he can.
Ibrahim realizes that the world is at his feet, and has already taken full advantage by placing a high standard on himself in regards to work ethic, playing time, and school marks.
