Samuel ‘The Mime Artist’
Position: Central Defender
Hometown: Freetown
Age: 12
Samuel comes from Sierra Leone’s capital Freetown. Sam grew up in a large family compound, his father had three wives and many children, and as such money and food were in limited supply.
Sam’s father did not spend much time at home with the family, and when he did it was unpleasant, as Sam was often beaten, leaving him feeling alone and unloved. Football was the outlet that helped Sam find joy, and he subsequently spent much of his time playing, and praying for a way out.
In 2011 Sam’s prayers were answered and he was given a trial at the Academy. If selected he would have a consistent education, three meals a day, but most importantly, people around him that believe and support him. During his time on trial Sam made sure to make himself noticed, an all action defender who can always be counted on for a dramatic tackle.
Since joining Sam has made sure to take advantage of the opportunities made available to him, reminding himself of where he has come from and where he wants to go.
