Santigie ‘Captain Fantastic’
Position: Midfield
Hometown: Freetown
Age: 15
Sanitigie is from Sierra Leones’ capital, Freetown. He lived there with his mother, in the East of the city in a very poor and tough area called Kissi. When he was growing up, Santigie sold bananas on the street to help his mother pay for basic living expenses.
While out fetching water for his family, he was called back to the house by his coach who informed him that the Craig Bellamy Foundation were having a trial in his area. It didn’t take long for coaches to recognize his natural ability, and Santigie was dually selected.
Santigie has played soccer for as long as he can remember. As a player he is robust and energetic, possessing an array of close ball skills that make him a difficult opponent to play against.
At the Academy, Santigie has gone from strength to strength on the football field. In 2011 he was named Academy Player of The Year, awarded the title of Academy Captain, and selected to spend six weeks training in the UK with Cardiff City FC. Santigie is well on his way to becoming a leading light for his country’s football hopes.
