Sulaiman ‘The Machine’
Position: Defence
Hometown: Freetown
Age: 14
Sulaiman was born and raised in Sierra Leones’ capital Freetown. Sulaiman’s family struggled financially after the war, and the constant conflict eventually drove his parents to separate, and Sulaiman went to live with his mother at a relative’s house.
For all the boys’ families, having your child selected to join the Academy is a big deal and makes them all very proud, but for Sulaiman’s family it did more than that. His selection helped bring his parents back together; their overwhelming joy for their son helped them see how much they loved each other and they have been together ever since, in return making Sulaiman happy and proud.
Since joining the Academy Sulaiman has worked hard and taken advantage of the many opportunities available to him. A tough-tackling centre back, in 2010 he was among the 11 boys selected to travel to Ghana, and in 2011 he was one of three chosen to spend 6 weeks training with Cardiff City FC’s Academy. Sulaiman’s progress has not been limited to the football field, in 2011 he was named most improved student for his tireless work in the classroom.
Sulaiman is also incredibly artistic, he is a talented illustrator and rap artist/performer – hobbies that are celebrated at the Academy. As he continues to dedicate himself to improvement the opportunities will be endless and the sky really is the limit.
